Three Suns and no Light

CMDR Airman_Dan's Log, 6th June 3307

Off into the Black once more.  After fueling the Omega Concern, preliminary scouting in the immediate vicinity yielded little of value.  In hopes of sighting anomalies, I took the Ad Astra and its shipboard fighter out for a spin.  A couple water worlds and an ammonia world or two were waiting to be found, and I happened into an Earth-like on the way back, but again my mysterious predecessors had seen the biggest and boldest prior to my arrival.  Youth had been done already—there was an Herbig Ae/Be, logged and catalogued.  Death had been done unto itself too—I don't know what used to be where that black hole is other than the name of the CMDR who found it first.

Still, things are looking up.  Or at least I was when I brought the Fiat Lux out for the next stretch of this journey.  My predecessors may have been compatriots of Khan, as I have been able to literally rise above their two-dimensional thinking.  My ascent into the heavens brought me to a red giant, and around it I found a planet caught in a tug-of-war between the Goliath and a nearby pair of red dwarves.  I hadn't seen three sunsets from the same place at the same time before.

This time, neither had anyone else.

A Brief Respite

CMDR Airman_Dan's Log, 4th June 3307

Home at last. I made it to the Omega Concern several days late, but it was right where I expected it to be. A few dents in my hull have been mended and 200MCr of exploration data have been sent to Universal Cartographics for review.

While I never feel cramped aboard the Fiat Lux—it has a theater!—ironically, its very vastness makes it feel more lonely than when I do these deep space journeys in my old Beagle Flyer Diamondback. Being docked back at the Concern has brought me some much-needed human contact after weeks out in The Void. And I’ve enjoyed the ability to amble about without a destination or purpose in mind. My other ships have been well-tended in my absence and the DRDs either haven’t noticed or don’t care that I’ve converted the parts bay behind my Eagle into a rec room.

Fuel is still an issue and I’ll be setting out again tomorrow in hopes of remedying it enough to get us where we’re going, but tonight I will sleep a little better with a roof over my head once again.

In the Shadows of the Dark

CMDR Airman_Dan's Log, 31st May 3307

The Omega Concern is in place, and I am on my way back from the Hope Dempsey. I seem to be following in the steps of someone else. Why they were out here, I do not know, and there is no one around anymore to ask. Still, I press on: the journey ahead remains long and the Omega Concern is on its last reserves of fuel. I should meet it today or tomorrow, but there won’t be much time for rest.

For now, I’m enjoying the view. I’ve made my waypoints out of B-type stars and the Fiat Lux is basking in the glow. If anyone’s looking for me, I shouldn’t be hard to find…just follow the trail of green paint.
